Get more involved with GPV

Already on our mailing list but want to get more involved? Or just looking for some fun voluntary work that benefits your family directly?

Work more closely with us as a Parent Leader or a Parent Consultant. You will find your knowledge grow as you discover more about the world of special needs in Greenwich. You'll use skills which may help you re-enter the workplace in future. Most importantly you'll make new friends who know what it's like to be a parent carer. We are here to support you!

Set up a GPV group in your school

Getting parents together in your school creates a powerful collective voice. If you would like to create a social group in your school for carers of children with special needs, then ask us about becoming a GPV Parent Leader. Parent Leaders volunteer to run coffee meeting for parents on a regular basis at their own child's school.

We can help you get your coffee morning up and running either termly or more frequently with the permission of your SENCO, and cover your expenses for tea and cakes so that you can all have a treat!

We will then establish a two-way flow of information; you pass to us the concerns of your parents and we will provide you with the latest essential SEND information for parents to share at your meeting. Our Parent Leaders tell us that these meetings have brought a new positivity to their lives, that they feel much more informed and less alone in dealing with the extra difficulties that caring brings.

Help other parents on the same journey

We believe every parent is an expert and our Parent Consultant role gives carers the chance to use their experience to help others on the same journey. This could be in ASD, complex needs, visual impairment or Downs Syndrome or any other special need. We ask for your views when we need special insight for consultations, by email or phone if you prefer.

Our Parent Consultants are first to be invited to special events such as MPs receptions and visits to Parliament. It is an enjoyable way to be involved with our group and requires very little time and effort. It also feels good to know that your experience will really help other parents.
